Spodumene → Li2CO3 / LiOH

Spodumene & Lithium Chain

Spodumene & Lithium Chain
The lithium chain runs hard-rock spodumene (or brine) → conversion → battery-grade carbonate or hydroxide → cathode active material → cell. Spodumene at 5–6% Li2O is converter-ready; lower grades require dilution or are rejected. Battery-grade Li2CO3 at 99.5% min commands a premium tied to cathode chemistry shifts (LFP vs NMC). Australia, Brazil and South America hold the mine stage; China holds roughly two-thirds of conversion capacity.

Applications

  • EV lithium-ion batteries (LFP / NMC / NCA)
  • Stationary energy storage
  • Ceramics & specialty glass
  • Greases & lubricants
  • Pharmaceutical intermediates
